How to work with sensitive teeth.

There is nothing cool about having your teeth feel like they are in pain.  I am always worried for those who have to fear a hot coffee or a cold ice cube.  It can be a mental pain to think about all the things that can hurt your mouth if you have sensitive teeth.  I am only aware of this on the short end of the spectrum because I have only experienced it due to working with teeth whiteners on a small scale and I can tell you that it was not a great time.  But for those who love to eat ice cream, it can be a very sore subject when it comes to actually get your enjoyment of sweet cold things.  I know for sure that it is simply not a good thing to do and it can be very complicated.  But what if it’s torture to yourself to eat ice-cold foods such as these? What if you have sensitive teeth? You know, the feeling of wincing when you bite into ice cream on the wrong side of the mouth? You end up teaching yourself to use your other teeth that aren’t so sensitive just to enjoy your favorite frozen treat. So when you work on getting your sensative teeth dealt with I think you need to start with your dentist.

There really is no better thing to do if you are feeling what I consider to be pain in your teeth caused by hot or cold foods or drinks.  If you know there is a problem then you need to see what is causing it.  It can be a bunch of different things and if this is harming you and your life it is best to fix the problem before it gets worse.  It could be as simple as prescribing a different toothpaste that can help alleviate the pain, but it may be more serious and may take a dentist to solve.

Basic things you can do is simply to avoid the drinks that are more filled with sugar and acid that cause these issues. Anything from soda to energy drinks and candy to specific fruits can wear down the enamel on your teeth. While eliminating these may not be entirely possible, cutting back on your intake of acidic food and drinks can go a long way in preserving the health of your teeth.

Now, what was my issue in the past was dealing with whitening products that had bleach in them.  There are methods out there to whiten your teeth and not all of them are the same. However, ask a dentist first before you purchase a product off the shelf at your local store. You really do not know what it will do to you.  Not all teeth whitening products are healthy for you, especially those that bleach your teeth directly. This can directly erode the enamel, leading to further sensitivity issues

Have good routines for your dental health.  While this seems like a no-brainer, brushing your teeth often, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash daily all help to keep your teeth in good condition. The fluoride found in most toothpaste helps to strengthen your teeth. So the better you maintain your daily routine, the better your overall dental health, which includes the sensitivity of your teeth.  So look good and be smart.

How much brushing is too much?

Every year I evaluate my own health.  This usually starts with looking in a mirror and seeing how I am looking in the mirror and it moves me...
